PALATINE, Ill. – The Harper College volleyball had two players, libero Meghan Chartier (Inverness, Ill./Buffalo Grove) and middle hitter Daniele Sortino (Elk Grove Village, Ill. /Elk Grove), selected to the Region IV All-Region Team.

Chartier played spectacular defense for the Hawks in 2014 and broke a Harper record for digs in a season with 850, which was also good enough to lead the nation. She had 5.63 digs/set, which was good for fifth in the nation. The first-year player was also very strong in the service game, as she was 486-of-510 serving with 47 aces (second on team).  She was named to the All-Tournament Team at all five tournaments that named All-Tournament teams(College of DuPage 19th Annual Classic, Harper College Invitational, Harper College Invite, Lincoln Land Invitational, and Region IV All-Tournament Team).

"Meghan was awesome on serve receive and on defense. She reads the hitter very well, and not only is always moving, but moves very quickly," said Harper head coach Bob Vilsoet. "Other teams have to compensate for that and hit the ball to the other side of the court."

Sortino led the team with 92 total blocks (10th in nation) and was second on the team in kills with 309. Sortino's .281 hitting percentage was a team-best, and she was also second on the team in kills/set at 2.12. She was also a strong server (470-of-500, 36 aces) in 2014.

"Daniele is a very versatile player, blocks and hits very well, and is a strong, high-percentage server with a lot of aces. She can play and hit from multiple positions," Vilsoet said.

With respect to volleyball, the North Central Community College Conference (N4C) and NJCAA Region IV are the strongest in the nation. The national champion has come out of the conference and region the last three years in a row and seven times since 1996. This year, three teams in the conference and region finished in the top six of the final NJCAA poll – Madison #1, Harper #4, and Rock Valley #6.
