PALATINE, IL- The Harper College men's soccer team traveled to _____________ to take on the #6 ranked Schoolcraft College Ocelots in the District C Semifinals. The Hawks' season ended after a 3-1 loss to the Ocelots.
The first half of the District Semifinal match did not see much action. The two teams combined to play 45 scoreless minutes while only putting a total of 3 shots on goal. The match was well-disciplined from the start, as there were 3 cards and 12 fouls between the teams.
The second half was a complete change of pace as both teams looked to increase the pressure in the win-or-go-home game. Harper was called for 12 fouls in the second half and received a team yellow card just a minute into the half. That would be the first of four second half bookings for Harper, including two red cards later in the half. The Hawks were able to get the scoring started when
Matthew Austin (Fremd) fed Yusuf Sahin for a 57th minute goal. Harper would enjoy their one-goal lead for the next 11 minutes until Schoolcraft answer back with a goal of their own. That goal would open the gates for the Oncelots as they scored in the 72nd and 80th minute to build a 3-1 lead. The Hawks became disheveled as they received two red cards, first in the 79th minute and another in the 82nd.
The loss put an end to a successful first season under new coach
Andre Watson. Watson was named the Region IV Coach of the Year while leading the team to an 11-6-2 overall record and a Region IV Championship.
