PALATINE, IL- The #8 ranked Harper College volleyball team hosted the Triton College Trojans on Thursday night. After playing a few nail biters in the past week, the Hawks were able to sweep the Trojans in three-sets.
The Hawks were in control of the match from the first set of the day as they took a quick 4-0 lead. Harper was able to build it up to a 13-6 lead before taking the first set by a 25-11 score. The second set was actually the closest of the night as the score was tied at 2, 3, and 6 points before the Hawks pulled away for a 25-9 win. The final set was all Harper as they ended the match with a 25-13 victory.
Gabby Fugle (Island Lake/Wauconda) and
Ashley Rothenberg (Streamwood/Streamwood) tied for the team-lead in kills with 8 apiece while
Mackenzie Bush (Bartlett/Bartlett) chipped in 5 of her own. The Hawks totaled a season-high 17 aces and extended their double-digit ace streak to 7 matches.Â
Carlene Colton (Lake in the Hills/Huntley) led the team with 5.Â
Kathleen Gueco (Hanover Park/Hoffman Estates)Â finished with 24 assists.
The win moves the Hawks' record to 15-8 overall and 6-2 in the N4C. Next up, they will travel to Rockford on Tuesday to take on the RVC Golden Eagles. Rock Valley has been a thorn in Harper's side all year but the Hawks will get a chance for redemption at 6pm.
