Harper Volleyball won 2 matches at the Triton Tri-Match

River Forest, IL: In the first match and first set against host Triton College, Harper started out with a 4-0 lead, and extended to 11-3 and 20-11 before winning 25-14. Regina Anelli, Stacy Maimur, Ava Belluomini and Taylor Knuth had 2 kills each. Anelli was 7-7 serving with 2 aces. Knuth was 4-4 serving with 3 aces.

In the second set, the score was even at 3-3 and 4-4, before Harper jumped out to an 8-5 lead, and then behind Knuth's serving which included 6 aces in a row, Harper led 15-4 before winning 25-18.  
Anelli led Harper with 4 kills and was 6-6 serving with 2 more aces. Knuth was 12-12 serving with 6 aces – all in a row.

In the last set, Harper led 7-1, which included 2 strong
Belluomini digs. Asia Williams' first serve of the match landed for an ace.  Harper then lead 10-3, and 16-6 on the way to a 25-13 win. Knuth had just 6 kills in the entire match. Williams was 7-7 serving with 3 aces. Knuth had 9 aces in this match which puts her in the Harper Hawks record book tied for most aces second all-time in a 3-set match. Abby Major led Harper with 10 digs for the match.


Olive-Harvey was the opponent at this Triton College Tri-Match. This is the second time Harper College played Olive-Harvey this week. On Tuesday, Harper won in 3 straight sets against a much improved Olive Harvey team, this year. 

In the first set, the score was even at 2-2, but then Harper took a commanding 16-6 lead behind Belluomini's serves, before winning 25-13. Belluomini led Harper with 4 kills and was 8-8 serving with an ace.

In the second set, the score was tied, this time at 5-5. Harper continued to drift to 7-12 when Harper called timeout. The score was finally tied up again at 14-14, then 15-15, 16-16, 17-17 18-18 and 19-19, before Harper broke the tie with a 25-21 win. Knuth led Harper with 4 kills and a block.
Major was 9-9 serving with an ace.

In the third set, Harper was tied yet again at 5-5, and then went back to drifting to a 7-12 deficit.  So, naturally, Harper called timeout again at 7-12. This time, Harper fell further adrift at 7-17, and 11-20 before losing 21-25. Belluomini and Knuth each had 3 kills. Harper had 11 hitting errors and 4 missed serves in this set. Knuth was 7-7 serving with 3 aces.

In the last set, with Harper hoping not to go to a 5th set a record 12 times in one season, there were many ties in this set; at 4-4, 5-5, 7-7, and 8-8. Belluomini served Harper to a 13-8 lead, but Olive Harvey closed to 14-14 and 16-16… and stayed close to 22-22. Behind Major's serves, Harper took a 24-22 lead, and win 25-23 on the last swing. In this last set, Knuth had 5 kills and 6 digs, and Belluomini had 4 kills. Belluomini was 6-6 serving with 2 aces. Major logged 7 digs in this last set.

Harper's final overall record for the year is 22-17.  Harper's final Region IV record was 16-5.
