Harper Volleyball defeated College of DuPage

Palatine, IL: Harper Volleyball defeated College of DuPage in 4 sets, 19-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-19, in front of a large crowd with parents, friends and siblings from both College of DuPage and Harper College, plus a bunch of cheering Harper College athletes! It was a loud gym tonight, and expectations were high for a good volleyball heavyweight battle.

In the first set, Harper jumped out in front with a 3-0 lead. College of DuPage tied the score at 5-5, 7-7, 9-9, 10-10 and 11-11, before College of DuPage took a commanding 5-11 lead. College of DuPage edged closer to the win at 19-22 and College of DuPage won 19-25.

In the second set, the score was tied just once at 2-2. Harper took a 4-2 lead, and nursed the lead to 8-5, then 12-6. College of DuPage closed the gap quickly at 15-13. Harper responded with 5 points to lead 20-15, but had to crawl slowly to the finish line at 21-17, 22-18, 23-19, 24-21 before winning 25-21.

In the third set, after ties at 1-1 and 2-2. Harper took a slim 4-2 lead. College of DuPage tied the score right away at 4-4. Then Harper took a 7-4 lead, but College of DuPage tied the score at 11-11 and again at 16-16. Harper took a slim 19-16 lead, and same as the previous set, crawled and maybe clawed their way to the finish line, 20-16, 22-17, 23-20, 23-21… before winning 25-21.

In the final set, after a 2-2 tie, Harper led 10-6 and extended to 15-8. Harper put on its crawling to the finish line shoes and led 19-12, and 20-13. But College of DuPage scored the next 4 points in a row to pull within 20-17. Harper fought back to a 23-18 lead, before winning 25-19.

This was a very hard-fought match for both teams. If these two teams play again, it will be in the Regional Playoffs with a trip to the National Championship tournament on the line.

 

Next up – After Harper Volleyball takes the weekend off, Harper then hosts a much improved Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) on Tuesday, October 10, at 6:00 p.m.
