Harper College Fights Back in Loss to Southwestern Illinois College Blue Storm Varsity

Harper College's effort to come back from down five runs in the second inning came up just short, as they fell 12-10 to Southwestern Illinois College Blue Storm Varsity on Sunday.  Harper College scored five runs in the failed comeback. Micah O'Neal (Forest Park, IL/Guerin Prep High School), Ehinger Adrianza (Miami, FL/Felix Varela Senior High),  Justin Gadomski (Schaumburg, IL/Schaumburg High School), Justin Cappis (Chicago, IL/Niles North), and Michael Budorick (Glenview, IL/Glenbrook South) came through with RBIs to lead the rally.

Harper College couldn't keep up with Southwestern Illinois College Blue Storm Varsity early in the game.  Southwestern Illinois College Blue Storm Varsity scored on a grand slam by Cameron Hailstone in the first inning, a single by Jared Comia in the second inning, a error in the second inning, a error in the second inning, a walk by Turner Doran in the second inning, a error in the second inning, and a walk by Mike Maloney in the second inning.

After Harper College scored one run in the top of the fourth, Southwestern Illinois College Blue Storm Varsity answered with one of their own.  Harper College scored when Cappis singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.  Southwestern Illinois College Blue Storm Varsity then answered when Comia's sac fly scored one run for Southwestern Illinois College Blue Storm Varsity.

Southwestern Illinois College Blue Storm Varsity pulled away for good with six runs in the second inning.  In the second Comia singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run, an error scored one run for Southwestern Illinois College Blue Storm Varsity, an error scored one run for Southwestern Illinois College Blue Storm Varsity, Doran drew a walk, scoring one run, an error scored one run for Southwestern Illinois College Blue Storm Varsity, and Maloney drew a walk, scoring one run.

Lane Funneman was the winning pitcher for Southwestern Illinois College Blue Storm Varsity. The pitcher lasted two and a third innings, allowing three hits and four runs while striking out two.  Tyler Altenbaumer and Grant Richars entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.  Richars recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Southwestern Illinois College Blue Storm Varsity.

Jermaine Salcedo (Arlington Heights, IL/Rolling Meadows High School) took the loss for Harper College. The righty surrendered ten runs on two hits over one and one-third innings, striking out one.

Matt Maloney started the game for Southwestern Illinois College Blue Storm Varsity. The pitcher allowed six hits and five runs over two-thirds of an inning, striking out two and walking one

Harper College smacked one home run on the day. Gadomski had a dinger in the first inning.

Harper College racked up 13 hits.  Gadomski, George Betevis (Hanover Park, IL/Bartlett High School), Budorick, Kyle Odeshoo (Arlington Heights, Illinois/Prospect High School), and Tyler Spiecker (Romeoville, IL/Romeoville High School) all collected multiple hits for Harper College.  Gadomski went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Harper College in hits.

Hailstone led Southwestern Illinois College Blue Storm Varsity with two hits in two at bats.  Southwestern Illinois College Blue Storm Varsity didn't commit a single error in the field. Wilser Then had the most chances in the field with ten.
