Harper lost to MATC in Region 4 Playoffs

Harper Volleyball lost to Milwaukee  1-3 (25-20, 23-25, 18-25, 24-26)

In a hard-fought match Harper Volleyball narrowly lost to Milwaukee in four sets, with each set featuring intense rallies and momentum shifts.

Set 1: Harper 25, Milwaukee 20
Harper came out strong, taking an early 8-1 lead. However, Milwaukee clawed back to tie the set at 9-9, setting the tone for a back-and-forth battle. The teams traded points at 12-12, 13-13, and 15-15, until Harper managed to edge ahead 20-18. Harper closed out the set 25-20, led by
Evie Mounts with 5 kills on 16 swings. Lauren Ahlstedt, Mira Tchohadjieva, and Morgan Krieter each added 3 kills, while Phoebe Kim provided 13 assists. Brianna Van Dyke led the defense with 7 digs, and Taylor Coutts was solid from the service line, going 9-for-10 with an ace.

Set 2: Milwaukee 25, Harper 23
Harper built a strong lead again, going up 8-2 and later stretching it to 17-10. Harper had an oh-so-close 23-19 lead.  However, Milwaukee surged, closed the gap and eventually tied the set at 23-23. Milwaukee took the final two points to win 25-23, seizing momentum for the match.
Mounts continued her offensive success with 5 kills on 8 attempts, while Abby Major led with 5 digs. Kim added 7 digs, and Coutts maintained her consistency with a 6-for-6 serving effort and one ace.

Set 3: Milwaukee 25, Harper 18
Milwaukee took control in the third set, recovering from an early 5-3 Harper lead to pull ahead 8-5. Harper managed to even the score at 15-15, but Milwaukee responded with a strong finish, taking the set 25-18.
Mounts and Ahlstedt each contributed 3 kills, with Krieter leading the digs with 7 and Coutts adding 5. Major was again perfect in serving, going 6-for-6.

Set 4: Milwaukee 26, Harper 24
In a dramatic fourth set, Harper jumped to a 4-0 lead, but Milwaukee fought back to tie it at 8-8. Milwaukee appeared to take control with an 18-13 lead, but Harper mounted a late comeback to bring the score at 23-23 and 24-24. Despite the rally, Milwaukee secured the final two points to take the set 26-24, and the match.
Ahlstedt led the team with 5 kills in this set, while Mounts added 4 more, bringing her match total to 17 kills.

Match Highlights:
Defense: Harper's totaled 87 digs (21.75 digs per set).
Major led with 18 digs, while Coutts and Kim each recorded 15.

Serving Efficiency: Harper completed 87 of 92 serves (95%) with only 5 errors.
Coutts led with two aces across the match. Milwaukee only missed 2 serves in the entire match. Coutts was 24-25 serving and 2 aces. Major was 21 of 22 serving and 2 aces, and Jasmine Nitu was 13-13 serving with an ace. Going back to Sophomore night, Nitu has served 32 consecutive serves.

Offense: Harper tallied 47 kills (11.75 per set), with
Mounts recording a match-high 17 kills and just 5 hitting errors. Ahlstedt finished with 12 kills and just 2 errors, Tchohadjieva had 10 kills and just 1 error.

Milwaukee's Edge: Milwaukee's stronger serving and blocking proved decisive, as they outperformed Harper with 16 aces and 11.0 blocks compared to Harper's 6 aces and 5.0 blocks.


Milwaukee now advances to the Region Semi-Finals in Madison, where they will face McHenry County College. Harper Volleyball wishes them the best of luck in the next round.
