Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Hawks Spoil DuPage’s Sophomore Night with Four-Set Victory

Glen Ellyn, IL: The Harper volleyball team silenced a packed house on DuPage's Sophomore Night, rallying after a first-set loss to take down the Chaparrals 24-26, 25-23, 25-17, 25-21 on Thursday evening in Glen Ellyn. Behind strong performances from Jocelyn Erling, Lauren Ahlstedt, and Mira Tchohadjieva, the Hawks battled through tight sets and key momentum swings to secure a gritty four-set win over their longtime Region 4 rivals.

In the first set, Harper took an early 5-2 lead, and pushed the lead all the way to 16-9. After an innocent service error, DuPage's libero served them into a 16-16 tie (Oh my!)! After another tie at 17-17, Harper fell behind 17-20 (Ouch!). Harper pulled to 20-23 on a
Tchohadjieva kill. Harper tied the score at 24-24 behind Tchohadjieva's 2 serves, but lost the set 24-26. Harper is now behind 0-1 in sets on DuPage's special night.

In the second set, there were several ties at 1-1, 4-4, 8-8, 9-9 and 11-11. Harper took a commanding (just kidding) 13-11 lead on a
Selin Hurdogan ace. Harper maintained a two and three point lead all the way up to 23-21 after a Erling kill.  At 23-
23 Harper scored on a tip, and won 25-23 on a
Ahlstedt kill in the clutch.

In the 3rd set, Harper fell behind 0-4, but caught up 5-5 on
Hurdogan's serving. More ties at 8-8 and then 10-10 on an Ali Pierre. Ties continued at 11-11, 12-12, 13-13, 14-14 and 15-15 with both teams playing very well. Harper took a 19-16 lead, and won 25-17.

In the 4th set, Harper fell behind worse than last time; this time 0-6. Harper pulled to 7-9 on
Pierre's serves. Then score was tied at 10-10 and 11-11… and 15-15 on a Tchohadjieva smash… and again at 16-16. DuPage took a slim 16-18 lead, then 18-20. Harper tied the score 20-20 on a Ahlstedt tip. Pierre's block put Harper ahead 23-21. Destiny Parsons backset Ahlstedt for a highlight kill, and a 24-21 lead before winning the set 25-21 and the match 3-1.

For the match,
Erling led Harper with 15 kills and 2 blocks, Ahlstedt had 12 kills and a block, and Tchohadjieva had 11 kills and 3 blocks. Setter Phoebe Kim had a very healthy 45 assists. Hurdogan came close to matching Harper's all-time high for number of serves in a match (31)… she was 27-28 serving with 4 aces. Erling was 13-14 serving with 2 aces, and Pierre was 9-10 serving with 4 aces.

Next matches are Saturday, October 26, 2025 against Milwaukee Area Technical College at Noon, and then Morton at 2:00 p.m. This Tri-Match will be played at Alverno College.
