Calhoun Soars in Jumps at Chicagolands

Naperville, IL: The Hawks men's track and field team competed at the Chicagoland Indoor Championships on Saturday at North Central College, facing off against 20 schools, including NCAA Division III, Division II, NAIA, and four NJCAA Region 4 opponents.

Athlete of the Meet: Jaylen Calhoun
Calhoun earned Athlete of the Meet honors with standout performances in the high jump and long jump. He cleared 6' 2" in the high jump and soared 22' 2.25" in the long jump, setting a new indoor personal best. While he had already met the National Qualifying standard in the high jump, his long jump performance secured his qualification in that event as well. His high jump mark now ranks seventh all-time in Hawks indoor history, while his long jump mark moves him to second.

Track Events
Seventeen Hawks competed on the track, including two 1600m relay teams.

Sprints
Prince Ellington impressed with a prelim time of 8.53 in the 60m hurdles. Ivan Rodriguez ran 7.37 (60m) and 23.50 (200m). Gianluca Manuel clocked 7.55 in the 60m, while Tyler Anderson ran 25.65 in the 200m.

Lucas McMillan led with a time of 52.44 in the 400m, followed closely by Anthony LoBue (52.48), Joel Jones (52.94), Fortis Variano (53.09), and Justin Brown (54.06).

Mid-Distance
Dakota White posted his second-best time of the season (2:02.62), while Zach Sheehan (2:05.10, indoor personal best), Nate Larsen (2:10.18, indoor personal best), and Edwin Amaro (2:18.58) also competed.
Connor Ariunbat led in 4:39.21, followed by Jose Morales (4:41.87, season best), Michael Johnson (4:48.02, indoor personal best), Jerome Graessle (4:51.12, indoor personal best), and RJ Moniri (5:07.18).

Distance
Owen Whelan ran the 3k in 9:13.17, with Ryan Golden close behind at 9:20.26.

Relays
The 1600m relay teams had strong performances, both making the Hawks' indoor top-10 list. The 'A' team, featuring McMillan, Jones, LoBue, and Andrew Rashad, narrowly missed the indoor school record by just 0.16 seconds.

Jumps
Rashad and Sean Holcombe each cleared 5' 6" in high jump. McMillan cleared 13' for the second time this season, while Stephen Osei made his first height in pole vault. Ellington reached 21', Shamar Allwood hit 19', and Seth Cohen just missed that mark in long jump and Allwood cleared just over 40' in triple jump

Throws
Rodolfo Martinez and Vladyslav Nakim competed in both shot put and weight throw. Martinez hit 32' 7" in shot put and 31' 10" in weight throw, while Nakim threw 36' 11.5" in shot put and 28' 6" in weight throw.

Alumni
Eric Martinez was at the meet competing for Elmhurst while Marc Alday, Mark Bavaro , and Adam Toren were all competing for North Central.

The Hawks continue to improve and climb their program record boards. They have two indoor meets remaining, with their next competition at North Central College for the F. Lee Slick Invitational on Friday.
