Game Recap: Men's Baseball |

Hawks Sweep Morton at Boomers Stadium

Schaumburg, IL: The Hawks baseball team continued its strong play against Region 4 competition, sweeping a doubleheader from Morton College at Boomers Stadium in Schaumburg. The Hawks took both games by scores of 9-0 and 5-3, improving their winning streak against Region 4 opponents to three games.

Facing their fourth Region 4 opponent of the season — after matchups with Joliet (DIII), Black Hawk (DII), and Lake County (DII) — the Hawks set the tone early in both games, jumping out to first-inning leads and never looking back.

In game one, Harper's offense and pitching were in sync in a 9-0 shutout victory. The Hawks racked up five extra-base hits, led by
Alex Tabbert, who finished a home run shy of the cycle. Michael Mango, Nick Drtina, and Will Hickey each added doubles, while Griffin Kelly contributed three singles.

Tabbert, Drtina, and Collin Roche each drove in two runs, pacing a balanced offensive attack. On the bases, Tabbert swiped two stolen bases and Brayden Clancy added another.

On the mound,
Riley Blackwell delivered a dominant performance, tossing six shutout innings while striking out nine and allowing just three hits to earn the win.

Game two was more tightly contested, but the Hawks once again struck early, scoring four of their five runs in the first inning and holding on for a 5-3 win.

Drtina led the way offensively, finishing with a single, triple, and three RBIs. On the mound, David Essien earned the win, going five innings and striking out six to help secure the sweep.

With the two wins, the Hawks continue to build momentum in Region 4 play following their 15-0 victory over Lake County on March 10. Harper will look to keep the streak alive as they return home for a doubleheader against Elgin tomorrow.
