Coach Bob Nolan started the men's cross country program at Harper College in 1968 and coached the program for 11 seasons until 1978.
Nolan graduated from St. Georges High School before briefly attending the University of Illinois. His schooling was disrupted briefly as he was a member of the US Marines before returning to finish school. He eventually earned his Master's Degree in P.E. and immediately was hired by the business department. He would go on to teach and coach at the university until 1968. He was the assistant coach his first season for the cross country and track & field programs before becoming the head coach for the next seven seasons. He joined Harper's staff to be closer to home and family. While teaching at Harper he helped develop the Cardiac Lab and program.
