Coach John Majerus joined the Harper coaching staff in the fall of 2017 as a volunteer coach for both the men and women's cross country program until 2021. He became the official assistant coach in 2022. He was also a volunteer track and field coach in 2018 before becoming an official assistant coach in 2019 focusing on sprints. He also helps coach relays and pole vault in track and field.

In 2023 Majerus was also named the sports information coordinator. In his two years in the role, his focus has been updating the Hawks website and maintaining the Hawks Instagram accounts. He is also working on updating the history of each team as well.

Majerus graduated from Elk Grove High School in 2011 as an Illinois State Scholar. He competed in golf and tennis for the Grenadiers. He was the captain of the varsity golf and tennis team his senior year and tennis MVP. He then spent a year at Arizona State University before he enrolled at Harper College. After a year at Harper, he joined the cross country team after never running competitively previously. He was a member of the 2013 and 2014 National Champion cross country teams, earning Second Team All-American status his sophomore season and winning team MVP. He was also an All-American for the 6th and 2nd place men's track and field teams in 2014 and 2015. After Harper, he transferred to Judson University where he competed for one track season and managed in the other seasons. After he graduated Judson in 2017, he ran the Chicago Marathon and qualified for the Boston Marathon which he raced in 2019. He earned two associates degrees from Harper and a BA in Accounting from Judson.
