Dr. Cedric M. Brown

In August of 2025, Dr. Cedric M. Brown was approved by the Board of Trustees as the new Harper College Director of Athletics.  Director Brown has over 31 years of relevant experience, including multiple years in athletic administration, 18 years in coaching, and seven years as a full-time faculty member in Kinesiology, Social Science, and Education.   
  
Dr. Brown has extensive administrative experience. Prior to his service with Harper College athletics, Dr. Brown served as the Sr. Associate Athletics Director for Administration at Southern Utah University (SUU).  Before his assignment at SUU, Dr. Brown served as the Director of Athletics at Lewis & Clark Community College. In addition to his time in athletics administration, he served as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach and full-time faculty instructor at Lake Land College. In addition to his service in athletics administration and competition, Dr. Brown was an adjunct faculty member at Southern Utah University and Missouri Baptist University.    
 
Teaching and athletics administration have been a transition from Dr. Brown’s early career responsibilities. Coaching and developing student-athlete began for Dr. Brown in 2001 at Parkland College (Champaign, IL) as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. After Parkland College, Brown served as a graduate assistant coach at for men’s basketball at South Dakota State University (2003 -2004). Following his stint at SDSU, Dr. Brown was an assistant coach at Chicago State University from 2004 to 2006. During the 2006-2007 season, Brown joined the Trinity Valley Community College men’s basketball staff as an assistant coach. From 2007-2014, Dr. Brown took over the men’s basketball program at Lake Land College (Mattoon, IL). During that time, Brown accumulated a record of 161-59, becoming the second winningest coach in school history.  

“I am humbled and extremely grateful to committee chair, Associate Provost, Dr. Dennis Baskin, Provost, Dr. Ruth Williams, and President, Dr. Avis Proctor, and the entire search committee for entrusting me with this important role to lead Harper College athletics.”, Brown said. “Harper College is one of the nation’s top two-year schools in the country, leading in innovative and reimagined learning for students, while creating a cultural environment of competitive teams who compete each year for NJCAA Regional and National Championships. I am proud to be the next leader of Hawks Nation,” Dr. Brown replied.  
 
Dr. Brown earned a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Organizational Development and Leadership in Sport, Fitness and Wellness Management from the University of Arizona Global Campus, a Master of Science Degree in Sports Pedagogy from South Dakota State University, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Recreation Education from Lehman College. 
 
Dr. Brown resides in Crystal Lake, IL. He is the proud father of five and grandfather of four.
