Dr. Cedric M. Brown was approved by the Board of Directors as the new Harper College Director of Athletics. Director Brown has over 31 years of relevant experience, including seven years in athletic administration, 20 plus years in coaching, and seven years as a full-time faculty member in Kinesiology, Social Science, and Education.
Dr. Brown earned a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Organizational Development and Leadership in Sport Fitness and Wellness Management from the University of Arizona Global Campus, a Master of Science Degree in Sports Pedagogy from South Dakota State University, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Recreation Education from Lehman College.
Dr. Brown has extensive administrative experience, previously serving as the Sr. Associate Athletics Director for Administration at Southern Utah University (SUU). Before his assignment at SUU, Dr. Brown served as the Director of Athletics at Lewis & Clark Community College. In addition to his time in athletics administration, he served as a full-time faculty instructor at Lake Land College and was an adjunct faculty member at Southern Utah University and Missouri Baptist University.
Coaching and developing students are two of Dr. Brown’s many talents and his coaching experience includes his role as the head men’s basketball coach at Lake Land College, the assistant men’s basketball coach at Mineral Area College, where he helped the Cardinals reach the NJCAA National Tournament. Dr. Brown also served as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Parkland College, Lewis & Clark Community College, South Dakota State and Chicago State University respectively.
Dr. Brown has achieved impressive professional accomplishments during his 30 plus years in athletics. For instance, he was a former professional football player with the Schwabisch Hall Unicorns in Schwabisch Hall, Germany (1996) and played semi-professional football with the Kokomo Mustangs, Kokomo, Indiana (1994 & 1995).
