GLEN ELLYN, Ill. – The Harper College women's soccer team fell behind in the first half and couldn't recover in a 5-3 loss to College of DuPage (12-6) in Saturday's Region IV Championship in Glen Ellyn, Ill.
“We attacked them like crazy,” said head coach
Dwayne Cruz. “We just broke down a little bit. We didn't play balls in like we should have. They were just simple mistakes.”
The Hawks (9-7) scored three goals in the second half, two of which came from leading scorer
Leah Tednes (Hoffman Estates, Ill., Hoffman Estates).
Nicole Gaborek (Arlington Heights, Ill., Hersey) scored the other on a play in which she got the ball 25 yards out, cut 3 COD defenders and hit a rocket from 20 yards out.
In the first half, Harper fell behind 3-0 as the team was unable to capitalize on 3 chances to score.
“What hurt was not being able to start
Amanda Herdegen (Hoffman Estates, Ill., Fremd) at center back where she had played all year and where she was comfortable,” Cruz said. “She played up top and not in back because we were afraid of her ankle. If she has to move side to side, she could have done. With her healthy, we win that game.”
