Box Score PALATINE, Ill. – Behind Matt Kitsis (Huntley, Ill./Huntley)' goal in the seventh minute of play, the Harper men's soccer team picked up a 1-0 victory over visiting Madison College on Wednesday afternoon.
Juan Hernandez (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) found Kitsis, who streaked through the Madison (4-6-1, 4-3-1 N4C) defense and beat WolfPack goalkeeper Thomas Sheahan to give the Hawks (4-4-2, 3-4-1 N4C) an early 1-0 edge. Alex Freeman (/St. Viator) also applied pressure on the WolfPack defense in the early going, getting off four shots in the first half.
Harper goalkeeper Irvin Velazquez (/Hersey) was rarely tested in the game as he only had to make three saves. The Hawks nearly took a two-goal lead in the second half on prime scoring chances from Alex Ramirez (Carpentersville, Ill./Dundee-Crown) and Chris Pantaleon (/Clark). Madison applied pressure late in the second half and nearly scored the equalizer with 1:30 remaining, but the Harper defense withstood the rush.
The Hawks play their next game on Saturday, Oct. 4 against Waubonsee Community College (5-4-1). Kickoff is set for 10 AM in Palatine.
