Box Score PALATINE, Ill. – Sophomore Katie Kushner (/Barrington) scored two goals in a 14-second span in the first half that propelled the Harper women's soccer team to a 3-1 win over Morton College Monday afternoon.
Kushner's first goal, which came at the 32:57 mark in the first half, broke a 1-1 tie. Just seconds later, she did it again, weaving through the defense and putting a shot past the Morton (3-9) goalkeeper.
The Hawks (4-8-2) got on the board first in the seventh minute of the regular season finale as Kristen Serviss (/Huntley) found the top right corner of the net on a beautiful shot. The Panthers answered with a goal in the 18th minute to tie the game before Kushner put the Hawks ahead for good. Nicole Soderholm (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) earned the victory in goal, making three saves in the first half. Danielle Reptowski (/Schaumburg) played the second half in goal for Harper and made three saves.
The Hawks outshot the Panthers 39-9 in the game and 20-6 for shots on goal. Serviss led Harper with 13 shots, seven on goal. Kushner and Jillian Zelek (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) put six and three shots on goal, respectively.
The Region IV women's soccer seeding meeting is this Thursday at 7 PM and will determine who the Hawks face in postseason play. Stay tuned for updates.
