Box Score GLEN ELLYN, Ill. – In Tuesday afternoon's season opener, the Harper College women's soccer team came up short against defending region champion College of DuPage, losing 3-1.
The Chapparals scored first, as Jessica Falco beat Harper goalkeeper Nicole Soderholm (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) in the 9th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Angela Toritto and Brittany Peters assisted on the goal.
Harper (0-1, 0-1 N4C) responded just over three minutes later in the 13th minute, as Danielle Reptowski (/Schaumburg) took a feed from Kassidy Kushner (/Barrington) and put the ball past DuPage goalkeeper Kylie Paul to tie the score at 1-1.
The tie was short-lived, however, as the Chapparals scored just over a minute later on a Toritto goal assisted by Idalia Rodriguez. College of DuPage (1-0, 1-0 N4C) applied more pressure to Harper for the remainder of the first half, but the score stayed 2-1 into halftime.
The Chapparals wasted no time in the second half, as Ashley Falco scored 47 seconds into the half of an assist from Rodriguez and Brittany Peters.
Soderholm (13 saves) faced more pressure the rest of the game but was able to thwart DuPage scoring opportunities. Harper could not find the back of the net in the second half and managed just five shots on goal in the game compared to 16 for COD.
The Hawks host N4C opponent Triton College (2-1, 1-0 N4C) in their home opener on Friday at 4 PM.
