Hawks Lose 2-1 at Madison

MADISON, Wis. – After tying the game up at 1-1 in the 72nd minute, the Harper College men's soccer team gave up a goal in the 83rd minute to lose 2-1 to Madison College.

The WolfPack (3-3, 3-0 N4C) got off to a fast start in the 11th minute as Mikel Appiah took a feed from Casey Risch and beat Harper goalkeeper Irvin Velazquez (/Hersey) for a 1-0 lead. The Harper (2-1, 1-1 N4C) attack managed only four shots in the first half, and the Hawks trailed 1-0 at halftime.

The Hawks turned up the pressure in the second half and finally broke through in the 72nd minute. Juan Hernandez (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) set up defender Alex Freeman (/St. Viator), who beat Madison goalkeeper Thomas Sheahan for his second goal of the year to even the game at 1-1.

In the late minutes of the game, it was midfielder Yacouba Koita who would decide the game. Koita scored an unassisted game-winning goal to put the WolfPack ahead for good.

Freeman, Matt Shadel (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg), Alfredo Jimenez (Prospect Heights, Ill./Wheeling) and Elliot Lara (/Home School) each had two shots on goal for the Hawks. Velazquez made seven saves in goal in defeat.

The Hawks are back in action on Monday at 4 PM at home as they play host to Joliet Junior College (1-4, 1-1 N4C) in a make-up game from Sept. 10.
