BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Harper College women's cross country team ran well at the Illinois Intercollegiate Cross Country Championships on Friday. The Hawks finished as the second junior college team at the meet with 296 points, behind only Danville Area Community College, and took 11th place overall as a team.
Lori Delfin (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) was Harper's top runner for the third consecutive meet, placing 49th in the 5K race in a time of 20:46.9. Silvia Catalan (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) was right behind her, taking 51st place in a time of 20:48.2.
Itzel Sotelo (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) finished as the Hawks' third runner with a 72nd place finish in 21:37.6. Cynthia Siddiqui (/Palatine) was the next Hawk to finish, crossing in 22:51.1 for 100th place. Maria Barajas (/Schaumburg) rounded out the scoring with a 110th place finish in 23:23.8.
Taylor LoCoco (/Prairie Ridge) and Kaeley Melaniphy (/Barrington) also ran in the meet for the Hawks, finishing in 133rd and 134th place in times of 26:50.8 and 26:56, respectively.
Host Olivet Nazarene University took top team honors with 48 points, narrowly edging second place North Central College (49 points). Judson University rounded out the top-3 with a team total of 70 points.
The Hawks do not race this upcoming weekend but will continue to train in preparation for the College of DuPage Invite on Friday, Sept. 26.
