Box Score PALATINE, Ill. – Despite a magnificent performance in goal from Nicole Soderholm (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove), the Harper women's soccer team came up short against visiting Rock Valley College on Friday afternoon, losing 3-1.
Soderholm made 23 saves in the game for the Hawks (2-2, 2-2 N4C), including several impressive stops in the early minutes. Rock Valley (5-1, 4-0 N4C) took an early lead on a Maura Korchak goal in the 12th minute. Soderholm fended off several other scoring attempts for the remainder of the half.
The Hawks struggled to maintain possession until late in the first half. On a corner kick in the 41st minute, Kristen Serviss (/Huntley) sent the ball toward the net, and midfielder Kassidy Kushner (/Barrington) headed it past goalkeeper Adriana Mandujano to tie the game at 1-1 heading into halftime.
In the second half, it was Korchak again for the Golden Eagles, as she took passes from Sadey Jumapao and Kelsea Berg and beat Soderholm to make it a 2-1 game in the 60th minute. The score remained the same until the 88th minute, when Korchak took a pass from Hayley Reeser and put the ball in the back of the net to make it 3-1 and give her a hat-trick.
Harper returns to the pitch on Saturday afternoon at 12 PM as they play host to Rochester Community and Technical College (3-3-1).
