Box Score PALATINE, Ill. – The Harper College men's soccer team had some prime scoring chances in the final few minutes of overtime against Prairie State on Monday afternoon but the two teams settled for a 1-1 draw.
Perhaps the best scoring chance came with 30 seconds remaining as Harper forward David Bahena (/Elk Grove) just missed giving the Hawks (2-3-2) the victory. Bahena was also denied a goal late in the first half on a brilliant save by Pioneers (5-3-1) goalkeeper Jose Maya on a ball that was crossed by Harper's Juan Hernandez (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) to Bahena.
The teams played a scoreless first half until Prairie State broke through in the 51st minute as Bryan Leon beat goalkeeper Chase Berko (/Hoffman Estates) on an unassisted goal. The Hawks evened the score in the 61st minute. Midfielder Matt Poleszuk (Wheeling, Ill./Buffalo Grove ) sent a free kick into the box that was headed into the goal by a Prairie State defender to make it a 1-1 game.
Berko, who made his first appearance of the season in the second half, was tested several times by the Pioneers' attack and made several impressive saves. Hawks midfielder Jaime Quintana (Lake in the Hills, Ill./Huntley) nearly put the Hawks ahead in the 84th minute but was denied by Maya.
