WARRENVILLE, Ill. – The Harper College women's cross country team finished as the top junior college at the College of DuPage Invitational at the St. James Farm Forest Preserve on Friday afternoon.
The Hawks, fresh off of being voted as the top NJCAA Div. III cross country program in the country along with Mohawk Valley Community College in the most recent poll, scored 377 points in the meet for 13th place overall, ahead of closest competitor Joliet Junior College (15th place, 435 points).
Lori Delfin (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) continued to be a consistent force for Harper, completing the 5K course in 20:10.50 for a 50th place finish. Brauer was followed by Silvia Catalan (Palatine, Ill./Palatine), who ran a PR time of 20:18.92 for 56th place. Itzel Sotelo (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) finished as the Hawks' third runner with a 103rd place finish in 21:26.48
Cynthia Siddiqui (/Palatine) and Maria Barajas (/Schaumburg) rounded out the scoring for Harper. Siddiqui ran a time of 22:40.43 for 139th place, and Barajas ran a time of 23:11.27 for 152nd place.
Taylor LoCoco (/Prairie Ridge) (186th place, 25:38.02) and Kaeley Melaniphy (/Barrington) (188th place, 25:49.36) both surpassed their personal bests by over a minute.
University of Illinois-Chicago earned top team honors with 57 points, followed by Wheaton College (60 points) and Loyola University Chicago (65 points).
The Hawks will return to the St. James Farm Forest Preserve for the Benedictine University Eagle Invitational on Friday, Oct. 10 at 4 PM.
