Box Score PALATINE, Ill. – The Harper College men's soccer team showed off its firepower on Wednesday afternoon against Milwaukee Area Technical College. Eight different Hawks scored goals in an 8-2 win over the Stormers in their N4C opener.
Harper (2-0, 1-0 N4C) started the scoring early in the 10th minute as Elliot Lara (/Home School) beat the Milwaukee goalkeeper to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. The Hawks extended the advantage to 2-0 in the 21st minute as Matt Shadel (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) set up Juan Hernandez (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling), who blasted a shot into the goal.
Milwaukee (0-1, 0-1 N4C) struck in the 27th minute to cut the lead to 2-1, but Shadel scored an unassisted goal just over a minute later to give the Hawks a 3-1 lead they would take into halftime.
The Hawks came out fresh in the second half, as Jaime Quintana (Lake in the Hills, Ill./Huntley) took a feed from Lara and put the ball in the left corner of the net to make it 4-1 just 50 seconds into the half. Just a minute-and-a-half later, Sergio Hernandez (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) was fouled inside the box and calmly put his penalty kick attempt into the back of the net for a 5-1 lead.
The Stormers scored in the 57th minute on a free kick to cut the Harper lead to 5-2. Harper scored three goals in the final 6:02 of the game. First, Starsky Correa (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) took a pass from Deion Morales (Des Plaines, Ill./Elk Grove) and sent a blast by the Milwaukee goalkeeper. In the 85th minute, Matt Poleszuk (Wheeling, Ill./Buffalo Grove ) fired a shot from well outside the box that found the top-right corner of the net. Finally, Alex Freeman (/St. Viator) capped off the scoring with a goal in the 89th minute, assisted by Correa.
Goalkeeper Irvin Velazquez (/Hersey) made three saves and picked up his second victory of the season.
The Hawks return to the pitch on Wednesday, September 10 for a 4 PM home game against Joliet Junior College (0-4, 0-1 N4C).
