Kitsis’ Golden Goal Gives Hawks 1-0 Win

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. – The first 98 minutes of the match between the Harper College men's soccer team and Prairie State College featured stout defense and limited scoring chances. That was until Harper's Matt Kitsis (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) settled the outcome of the game with a golden goal in the 99th minute to give the Hawks (8-3-3) a thrilling 1-0 victory over the host Pioneers (7-6-1).

Kitsis' goal came on an assist from Niko Mihalopoulos (Lake in the Hills, Ill./Huntley). The Hawks managed 14 shots on goal in the game but just four on goal. Mihalopoulos led the team with five shots, and Raul Alcala (/Schaumburg) and Angel Sarti (/Hoffman Estates) had two apiece.

Harper goalkeeper Jacob Goldstein (Buffalo Grove, Ill. /Stevenson ) (7-2-3) was tested at times and made 12 saves in the match. Prairie State goalkeeper Matt Potacki made three saves in the defeat.

The Hawks wrap up conference play on Wednesday, Oct. 14 with a 4 PM match against Milwaukee Area Technical College (0-12, 0-9 N4C).

Notes: Kitsis' goal was his second game-winner in his Harper College career, the first coming on Oct. 1, 2014 in a 1-0 victory over Madison College … the Hawks have scored 25 goals in 14 games but have given up just 17 goals … the Hawks are the 2015 N4C Conference Champions!
