Box Score PALATINE, Ill. – The Harper College women's soccer team scored two second half goals to defeat Joliet Junior College, 2-0, on Friday afternoon.
The Hawks (7-6, 5-3 N4C) struggled to find the back of the net in the match despite 34 shots (16 on goal) and 21 corner kicks. Harper outshot Joliet 15-1 (0-11-1, 0-8 N4C) in the first half, but the game remained scoreless until the 59th minute.
It was then that Gabrielle Mclaurin (/Barrington) made an impact in her first game, scoring a goal on an assist from Kassidy Kushner (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) to put the Hawks on the board. Just over two minutes later, the tandem struck again. This time, Kushner scored on a feed from Mclaurin to give Harper a 2-0 lead, and that was all they needed.
Harper goalkeeper Sonia Valencia (Wheeling, Ill/Wheeling) was rarely tested and made one save in a winning effort. Kristen Serviss (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) led the team with 10 shots (four on goal), followed by nine from Kushner (five on goal) and five from Mclaurin (three on goal).
The Hawks play their next game on the road at Madison College (5-6-1, 3-5-1 N4C) on Wednesday at 4 PM.
