PEORIA, Ill. – The Harper College women's cross country team ran at the Bradley Pink Classic on Friday afternoon at the Newman Golf Course in Peoria. The Hawks captured top junior college honors and placed seventh overall out of 18 teams in the Women's White Race.
Harper's top five runners combined to score 231 points. The next closest junior college, Lincoln College, finished in 10th place with 264 points. University of Northern Iowa won the meet with 74 points, followed by Loyola (Ill.) University (90 points) and Monmouth (Ill.) College (102 points).
Fresh off being named the NJCAA Division III Women's National Athlete of the Week by the USTFCCCA, freshman Ali Gutt (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) picked up right where she left off with another solid performance. She completed the 6K course in 23:07.6, good for ninth place overall.
Dianne Barajas (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Schaumburg) ran her best 6K of the season by nearly 30 seconds. The freshman blitzed through the course in 24:00.2 for 39th place overall. Leslie Rosiles (Mount Prospect, Ill./Rolling Meadows) came in as the Hawks' third runner, placing 60th in the meet with a time of 24:40.2.
Sophomore Silvia Catalan (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) finished the course in 25:17.6 for 75th place. Rounding out the top-five, Katie Thevara (Des Plaines, Ill./Elk Grove) took 101st place in a season-best 6K time of 26:14.9.
Veronica Brooks (Arlington Heights, Ill./Battle (Mo.)) ran the 6K course in a time of 27:19 for 118th place. Amy Nava (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) crossed the finish line in 28:45.5 for 136th place, and Michelle Puma (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) was Harper's eighth runner with a 137th place finish in 28:49.5. Sophomore Cynthia Siddiqiui placed 145th in a time of 29:15.3. Jacqueline Colon (Des Plaines, Ill./Elk Grove) took 150th place in 30:15.1.
