PALATINE, Ill. –The Harper College women's soccer hosted Triton College on Tuesday afternoon in the Region IV Quarterfinals. Harper and Triton met just four days prior, with the Hawks winning 5-1 in the N4C finale. This time, much more was at stake.
The Hawks (9-7) scored five times in the game's first 33 minutes on their way to a 7-2 victory over the Trojans (0-13-1).
Kristen Serviss (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) scored the game's first goal in the 13th minute on a corner kick that slipped through the hands of the Trojan goalkeeper. Just over a minute later, Kassidy Kushner (Barrington, Ill./Barrington), one of the nation's top goal scorers, scored on a beautiful cross from Tatiana Rauch (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) to give the Hawks a 2-0 cushion. Kushner added her second goal of the game in the 24th minute on a header into the left side of the net off a corner from Serviss.
Danielle Reptowski (Hanover Park, Ill./Schaumburg) used her speed to create a breakaway chance in the 33rd minute. Reptowski took a feed from Kushner, blazed by a Triton defender, and calmly buried the ball in the back of the net to make it 4-0. Defender Nicole Soderholm (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) added to the lead with her third goal of 2015 just 45 seconds later.
The Trojans scored two late goals in the first half to cut the deficit to 5-2. Magdalena Adame scored on a penalty kick after the Hawks were whistled for a handball in the box. Triton forward Victoria Martin-Del Campo scored on a high shot in the right corner of the net with less than a minute remaining in the first half.
In the second half, Reptowski scored her second goal of the contest and 16th of the year on a penalty kick. In the 82nd minute, she connected with Taecely Correa (/Buffalo Grove), who scored her first career college goal.
Harper goalkeeper Sonia Valencia (Wheeling, Ill/Wheeling) made two saves in the match and earned the victory in net. Harper outshot,
With the win, the Hawks advance to the Region IV Semifinals at No. 2 seed Rock Valley College (7-4) on Saturday at noon.
