AURORA, Ill. – The Harper College women's cross country team ran well at the Aurora University Spartan Cross Country Classic on Friday at the Oakhurst Forest Preserve. As a team, the Hawks finished in third place overall and as the top junior college at the meet.
Harper scored 73 points in the meet to finish behind only Wheaton College (34 points) and host Aurora University (52 points).
Ali Gutt was Harper's top runner once again, finishing the 6K race in 23:03.2 for a fifth place finish. Dianne Barajas (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Schaumburg) ran another strong race, placing 15th in a time of 24:27.7. Leslie Rosiles (Mount Prospect, Ill./Rolling Meadows) was the Hawks' third runner to finish the race in a time of 25:11.4 for 18th place.
Sophomore Silvia Catalan (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) took 24th place with a finishing time of 25:33.6 while Veronica Brooks (Arlington Heights, Ill./Battle (Mo.)) rounded out the scoring with a 30th place finish overall in 25:56.9.
Katie Thevara (Des Plaines, Ill./Elk Grove) (76th, 29:07.7) and Cynthia Siddiqui (/Palatine) (81st, 29:29.2) finished in the top-seven for the Hawks. Michelle Puma (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) (86th, 30:14.3), Jacqueline Colon (Des Plaines, Ill./Elk Grove) (90th, 30:38), Maggie Madden (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) (100th, 32:58.1) and Nancy Leinwander (Inverness, Ill./Fremd) (101st, 33:20.1) all performed well in their first college meet at the 6K distance.
The Hawks will race next at the College of DuPage Invite on Friday, September 25 at 4:15 PM.
