Box Score ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Harper College women's soccer team held a 1-0 lead at halftime on the road against No. 5 Rock Valley College. Unfortunately, the Hawks could not hold the lead, as the Golden Eagles struck for two goals in the second half to prevail, 2-1.
Harper (0-3, 0-2 N4C) got on the scoreboard with about a minute left in the first half as sophomore midfielder Kassidy Kushner (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) took a pass from Vanessa Salazar (Stone Park, Ill./Proviso West) and put the ball past Rock Valley (3-1, 3-0 N4C) goalkeeper Shannel Boettcher for her second goal of 2015.
The Hawks continued to lead until the 65th minute, when Vanessa Martinez found Briana Perez, who beat goalkeeper Sonia Valencia (Wheeling, Ill/Wheeling) for her third goal of the year. Under a minute later, it was Golden Eagles' leading scorer Sadey Jumapao who scored the eventual game-winner, taking a feed from Perez and finding the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season.
While the Hawks were able to apply some pressure the rest of the way, they could not score an equalizer. Valencia made seven stops in a losing effort while Boettcher made 10 saves and earned the win in net.
Harper returns to the pitch on Wednesday as the team travels to Joliet Junior College (0-6, 0-3 N4C) for a 4 PM N4C showdown.
