Box Score PALATINE, Ill. – Harper College sophomore forward Kassidy Kushner (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) scored two second-half goals to propel the Hawks to a 2-1 victory over visiting Madison College on Friday afternoon.
Kushner's first goal came in the 49th minute as she took a pass from Danielle Reptowski (Hanover Park, Ill./Schaumburg) and fired a shot from outside the box past Madison (2-3, 2-3 N4C) goalkeeper Lindsay Hamilton to tie the game at 1-1.
In the 62nd minute, Harper (2-3, 2-2 N4C) forward Diana Uihlein (Chelsea, Mich./Model Secondary School for the Deaf) was tripped inside the box, setting up a penalty kick for Kushner. Kushner tried to put the ball in the right side of the net, but Hamilton made a diving safe to keep the score tied. However, the Hawks struck just 16 seconds later as Reptowski found Kushner again on a beautiful feed, and this time she capitalized with her second goal of the game (eighth of the season) to put Harper ahead 2-1.
Madison had some chances to tie the game, but Valencia stood strong behind a solid Harper defensive effort. The Hawks outshot Madison 20-7 on the game and put 13 shots on net compared to just five for the WolfPack.
The WolfPack's lone goal came in the 40th minute from Jamie Hess. Hess sent a high ball into the box that ended up bouncing over Valencia's head and into the net to put Madison on the scoreboard first.
Valencia (2-3) made four saves in goal to earn the victory while Hamilton (2-3) made 11 stops but was credited with the loss.
Kushner's two goals give her seven goals in the past three contests. She scored the lone Harper goal against Rock Valley College Sept. 12 and scored four times in a win over Joliet Junior College Sept. 16.
The Hawks will have no time to rest as they host Rochester Community and Technical College (1-2) Saturday at noon.
