Box Score MADISON, Wis. – The Harper College men's soccer team upped its unbeaten streak in N4C play to seven games with a 3-2 victory at Madison College on Friday afternoon.
The Hawks (6-2-2, 6-0-1 N4C) fell into an early 1-0 hole as Madison (5-3-2, 3-2-1 N4C) defender Nicolas Piazza scored an unassisted goal. Harper forward Niko Mihalopoulos (Lake in the Hills, Ill./Huntley) tied the score at 1-1 on a goal that was assisted by Colin O'Meara (Palatine, Ill/Palatine). The two teams matched up evenly in the first half and went into halftime tied.
Harper took its first lead of the match on a goal from Angel Sarti (/Hoffman Estates). Fredy Diaz (Wheeling, Ill/Wheeling) assisted on the goal. The Hawks got a goal from O'Meara, his first of the season, to make it a 3-1 game.
Facing a two-goal deficit, Madison turned up the pressure and cut the deficit to one as Alfredo Ramirez-Pinh found the back of the net on an assists from James Pretto. The WolfPack threatened to score in the closing minutes, but the Harper defense thwarted off attempts to tie the game, preserving the victory.
Hawks goalkeeper Jacob Goldstein (Buffalo Grove, Ill. /Stevenson ) (5-1-2) made four saves and picked up his fifth win of 2015. WolfPack goalkeeper John Arendt (5-3-2) made five saves in a losing effort.
With the win, Harper is atop the N4C standings at 6-0-1, ahead of nearest challengers Madison College (3-2-1 N4C) and Joliet (3-2-1 N4C). Triton College (3-4 N4C), Rock Valley (2-3-2 N4C) and Milwaukee Area Technical College (0-6 N4C) make up the rest of the conference standings.
The Hawks return to the pitch on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at home against Joliet Junior College (5-5-1, 3-2-1 N4C). The match is set to start at 4 PM.
