Box Score PALATINE, Ill. – The Harper College women's soccer team had a hard time containing a high-powered College of DuPage attack in Friday's season opener. The Chapparals (1-4, 1-0 N4C) struck early and often, going on to a 6-0 victory over the Hawks (0-1, 0-1 N4C).
DuPage midfielder Melissa Philips got the scoring started in the eighth minute, taking a feed from Yvette Hernandez and beating Harper goalkeeper Sonia Valencia (Wheeling, Ill/Wheeling). In the 21st minute, Hernandez did the scoring on an assist from Danielle Allen to make it 2-0. Less than two minutes later, Philips struck again to make it 3-0. Hernandez and Mary Karas assisted on the goal.
In the 38th minute, Kaitlyn Fehrman scored an unassisted goal to give the Chapparals a 4-0 cushion at the break.
The Chapparals added to the lead in the 51st minute as Ashley Falco scored her first goal of the season. Fehrman and Hernandez chipped in with the assist.
Finally, Philips completed the hat trick in the 74th minute, scoring for a third time on an assist from Karas and Emily Maddox.
Kylie Paul (1-1-0) made three saves and earned the victory in goal for DuPage. Valencia (0-1-0) made eight saves in a losing effort for Harper.
DuPage outshot Harper 21-9 in the game. Second-year forward Danielle Reptowski (Hanover Park, Ill./Schaumburg) led the Hawks with four shots (one on goal), and Nicole Soderholm (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) tallied three shots (two on goal).
The Hawks return to the pitch at 4:30 PM on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at Richard J. Daley College (0-1).
