Box Score

Palatine, Ill- With the score tied at 1-1, the Harper men's soccer team ran off five unanswered goals in route to a 6-3 victory over visiting Elgin Community College (ECC). The Hawks (10-2-1, 7-2-1 N4C) took the lead for good just 11 minutes into the match when Angel Sarti (/Hoffman Estates) corralled a rebound off a Fabian Tovar (/Palatine) shot and slotted it past a diving Spartan keeper.

Harper got on the board early on a well-executed long throw by Gorgis Yelda (/Buffalo Grove), which found Ricky Choi's head, and redirected over the keeper's outstretched hands to put Harper up 1-0. Moments later, ECC (3-8) would tally the equalizer to make the game 1-1.

Later, a free kick deep in the Spartan's end of the field proved disastrous for the visitors. From about 30 yards out, Harper defender Phil Minneci placed the ball around the Spartan wall and into the bottom right corner of the net.

In the 64th minute, Yelda added his second assist when his cross was volleyed in by Tovar. Moments later, Harper added another goal when Daniel Geary (/Elgin) was slotted through and finished putting the Hawks up 6-1. Elgin got as close as 6-3, but was unable to get any closer to the high scoring Hawks.

Up next for Harper is Milwaukee Area Technical College on Oct. 12 in Milwaukee, WI. The Hawks and Stormers played earlier in the season, with Harper earning a 3-1 victory on its home pitch. Harper is locked in to the second spot in the region tournament. The Hawks also placed second in the N4C, behind Madison Community College (11-1-2, 8-1-1 N4C).
