PALATINE, Ill. – The Harper College men's soccer team tallied two North Central Community College Conference (N4C) wins this past week. On Wednesday, the Hawks (5-2, 4-2 N4C) knocked off Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) (0-7, 0-5 N4C) 3-1. Then on Friday, Harper handled College of DuPage (4-3, 1-2 N4C) 5-2, exploding for four second half goals.
On Wednesday, the Hawks were forced to fight back against the Stormers after a beautiful strike by MATC's Alexander Lopez found the net. Lopez raced down the right side of the pitch with little resistance, and hit a missile into the upper right corner that Harper keeper,
Christian Hyde (/Conant), could do little about.
The 1-0 deficit for the Hawks would hold until the 63
rd minute, when a quick combination of passes between Hawks' Ricky Choi and
Tafara Musiwa (/Kutama) would end up on the right foot of Choi, who unleashed a rocket from 30 yards that found the net.
Spurred on by the goal, the Hawks were far too much for the Stormers down the stretch, and added the deciding tally with nine minutes left in the match. A Hawks' throw-in deep in MATC's territory by
Colin O'Meara (/Palatine) would be knocked directly back to O'Meara, who served a ball, in the air, inside of MATC's box finding the head of Phil Minneci and redirecting into the goal.
Just a few moments later, Harper added its third goal of the second half. Hawks'
Angel Sarti (/Hoffman Estates) took a shot that was initially saved by Stormers keeper, Jake Paniagua, but the rebound was ran onto by
Tafara Musiwa (/Kutama), who promptly finished it. Tafara would finish the game with a goal and an assist.
On Friday, the Hawks took a 1-0 lead into the second half that ballooned to a 5-2 victory.
Colin O'Meara (/Palatine) notched three assists for the Hawks and
Tafara Musiwa (/Kutama) added a goal and an assist.
Alexis Alvarez (/Buffalo Grove) also had two second half goals.
Harper's next contest will be in Palatine on Sept. 21 against Triton College (7-1, 4-1 N4C). This is the second game the teams have played in 2016, with the Hawks dropping the first 2-1.
