PALATINE, Ill.- The Harper men's soccer team got back on track in North Central Community College Conference (N4C) play at home on Friday afternoon. The Hawks (2-1, 1-1 N4C) built a two-goal lead by the 20-minute mark and went on to claim a 5-1 win against visiting Joliet Junior College Wolves (1-3, 1-2 N4C).
The Hawks didn't take long to get on the board. A
Tafara Musiwa (/Kutama) shot was initially saved by Joliet goalkeeper Abraham Huichapa, but was headed back in by
Ryan Drum (/Buffalo Grove) finding the foot of Musiwa once again, who deftly volleyed it into the back of the net to give the Hawks the lead just seven minutes into the contest.
Soon after, a beautiful through ball by
Angel Sarti (/Hoffman Estates) found a streaking Ricky Choi who slotted the ball past Huichapa to give the hosts a two-goal lead.
Right before halftime, the Hawks would tack on a third goal when Musiwa's cross found
Luccas Greco (/Schaumburg) in front of the net with just three seconds left on the clock.
Coming out of the break, Joliet stuck first when forward Stephen Saah stole the ball from the Harper's backline and finished to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Rallying back, Harper added two more goals in the second half, including a half volley by Danny Maldonado. Musiwa would assist on the goal, finishing the game with a goal and two assists.
"I was pleased with the effort today," said Harper Coach
Dan Klaus. "We played a little to direct against Madison on Wednesday. Today we were able to possess better and build up, which made us much more dangerous."Â
Harper plays its next match on the road against Triton College on Sept. 7. The Hawks defeated the Trojans twice in 2015
