Box Score PALATINE, IL-Â The Harper College women's soccer team defeated the College of Lake County Lancers by a score of 5-2 on Monday.
The Hawks got the scoring started early after
Julia Szylke () found the back of the net just 19 seconds into the match. The scoring continued in the 15th minute when Szylke dribbled to the right of the box and sent a cross far post that
Christina Kim () headed in, giving the Hawks a 2-0 advantage. The Lancers would answer back, however, and cut the lead in half with a goal of their own in the 21st minute. With 10 minutes to go in the half,
Lauren Talesky () gave Harper back the two-goal advantage when she launched a shot from outside the box that flew by the CLC goalkeeper. At the end of the first half, the Hawks led the Lancers by a 3-1 score.
The first 15 minutes of the second half did not have nearly the same amount of action as the first, but Harper did see a multitude of scoring chances. The Hawks kept up the offensive pressure but were not able to find the back of the net. Goalkeeper
Jasmine Carillo () was able to keep the Lancers off the board with 2 saves in the first part of the half. After an injury delaed the game for over 15 minutes, Harper scored again as
Julia Morales (/Schaumburg)' corner kick into the box found just enough of Szylke's leg for her second goal of the match. The Lancers wasted little time answering back as they scored a goal with just over 20 minutes to go. The Hawks took advantage of a CLC foul in the box with 7 minutes to go and Szylke's shot snuck past the goalkeeper to give Szylke a hat trick and the Hawks a 5-2 lead. Harper would stay in control for the remainder of the match for the victory.
With the win, the Hawks move to 6-6 on the season. Harper will travel to Oglesby, IL on Wednesday for a match against Illinois Valley at 4pm.
