Box Score PALATINE, IL-Â The Harper College men's soccer team shutout the Milwaukee Area Technical College Stormers by a score of 6-0 on Wednesday.
The Hawks, trying to get to .500 in conference, had a tough test in the first half against a Stormer team that was looking for their first win in the N4C. Both teams battled to a scoreless tie through the first 45 minutes but they each saw opportunities early to strike first. The Hawks got off 13 shots (4 on frame) while the Stormers were more efficient in putting 3 of their 6 total shots on goal.
The story was much different in the second half, however, as the Hawks kept up the pressure and would finally have something to show for it. 6 minutes in,
Ricky Gonzalez () worked hard to get into the box and drew a foul, resulting in a penalty kick that he hammered home to put the Hawks ahead 1-0. The score would remain the same until the 69th minute when
Ben Poder () fed a nice pass to
Raphael de Souza (), who's right foot shot snuck past the diving keeper far post. 3 mintues later, Poder would get another assist as he led
Pedro Botello () who, after one touch, hit a great right footed shot far post for the goal. Harper would keep piling it on as
Austin King (/Hoffman Estates) received a nice cross from
Noah Ozbag () and headed it in to give the Hawks a 4-0 lead. A scramble in the box in the 86th minute created another scoring opportunity as the ball came out to
Brian Rodela (/Conant) and he finished with the left foot past the goalkeeper. The final goal would come just two minutes later as another well placed ball found the foot of
Lisandro Sanchez (), who sealed the deal.
Goalkeeper
Christian Hyde (/Conant) completed the shutout with 5 saves in the match. The Hawks totaled 28 shots in the contest, putting 12 on net.
With the win, Harper moved to 7-5-1 overall and 4-4-1 in N4C play. Next up, the Hawks will host the Joliet Junior College Wolves on Friday at 4pm. In the first meeting, Joliet defeated Harper by a score of 4-3.
