Box Score 2 PALATINE, IL-Â The Harper College Men's Soccer team bounced back from a season opening loss to win the next two games Friday and Saturday.
AUGUST 25- Hawks defeat CLC 3-2
On Friday, the Hawks hosted the Lancers from College of Lake County in the 2017 home opener. Harper received their first goal of the season after
Ben Poder () gave
Pedro Botello () a great across the box pass in the first minute of the game. Less than 10 minutes later,
Yuriy Kopytko () added onto the lead after
Andrew Janikowski (/Dundee-Crown) provided him with a great through ball and Kopytko navigated a tough finish for the goal, giving the Hawks a 2-0 lead.
Holding onto a two goal lead, CLC was able to bounce back with a goal to bring the lead back down to one. As they did in the first half, Harper took a quick goal to extend their lead back to two after another goal from Kopytko just into the 47th minute. This time, it took a misplay from CLC's goalie which allowed
Raphael de Souza () to feed Kopytko for a nice one touch finish. CLC refused to quit as they responded with another goal to bring the score to 3-2.
Solid defense by both teams made sure the score would remain 3-2 in Harper's favor. Christain Hyde finished the game with 2 saves for the Hawks as the offense totaled 13 shots.
AUGUST 26- Hawks beat Elgin 5-2
The Hawks received little rest after Friday's victory to come back with a Saturday game at Elgin Community College. Once again, Harper was the first to score after a series of good connection passes lead to through ball from
Ricky Gonzalez () was finished by
Cesar Velazquez () in the 16th minute. As was the case on Friday, Harper wasted little time extending their lead in the 19th minute as Velazquez assisted
Andrew Janikowski (/Dundee-Crown) on a goal from 45 yards out.
The Hawks repeated the series of events from Friday again as Elgin was able to close the gap to one with a goal at the start of the second half. Harper then bounced back to score in the 55th minute, this time off a corner kick that was finished by
Sergei Wawrzyniak (). However, Elgin would respond once again with a goal in the 63rd minute. In the 69th minute,
Noah Ozbag () was able to bring the ball into the box of ECC before being tripped up, causing a penalty kick that Troy Montesinos finished to bring the lead back up to 4-2. The final goal of the game came in the 75th minute on another well played through ball.Â
Pedro Botello () lead de Souza who cut back once and was able to finish with his left foot into the far side netting.
Harper's offensive attack was aggressive, getting off 28 shots in the contest and putting 8 on frame.Â
Christian Hyde (/Conant) once again finished the game with 2 saves.
The Harper Hawks will be in action Wednesday in the N4C opener against Triton College in River Grove.
