Gonzalez, de Souza Lead Hawks to Comeback Victory

Box Score PALATINE, IL-  The Harper College men's soccer team traveled to Madison to take on fellow N4C opponent Madison College WolfPack and returned with a 3-2 victory on Wednesday.

Sophomore goal keeper Christian Hyde (/Conant) saw his shut out streak end in the 35th minute when Madison received a goal from Toby Andrews.  The score would remain 1-0 in favor of the WolfPack heading into halftime.  Madison would extend their lead in the 60th minute after a goal from Shane Paterson brought the score to 2-0.

Despite being down 2-0 with a half hour left to play, the Hawks would continue to apply pressure throughout the rest of the half.  Ricky Gonzalez () put Harper on the board in the 63rd minute after intercepting a pass from the WolfPack defense and finished the goal on a breakaway.  Gonzalez' goal seemed to open the gates for the Hawks as Raphael de Souza () got in on the action with a goal of his own just three minutes later, tying the match 2-2.  Both teams would remain neck and neck as the game looked likely to head into overtime before Gonzalez and de Souza teamed up.  In the 88th minute, Gonzalez led de Souza on a good throughball that de Souza was able to finish far post despite the WolfPack goalkeeper getting a finger on it.  The Hawks would hold on for the last 2 minutes and finish the match with a 3-2 victory.

The Hawks have now won two in a row to bring their record to 4-2-1 (1-1-1 N4C).  Next up is another N4C matchup as the Hawks travel to Joliet to take on the Joliet Junior College Wolves on Wednesday, September 20 at 4pm.
