Box Score PALATINE, IL-Â The Harper College women's soccer team defeated Triton College by a score of 2-1 on Friday.
The Hawks started off quickly in the first half, seeing a multitude of scoring chances but Triton's defense stood tall. Harper stayed relentless and kept the pressure on and finally found themselves on the board after
Briana Orozco () took a pass from
Christina Kim () in the box and pushed it past the Triton goalkeeper to take the lead in the 22nd minute. Due to temperatures reaching the upper 80's, officials called a stoppage in play to give the players a quick break. After the stoppage in play, the Harper offense kept attacking and
Julia Morales (/Schaumburg) just missed adding onto the lead as she saw her shot sail over the crossbar.
Triton eventually got their chance and made the Hawks pay when Claudia Olloa tied the game at 1 goal apiece with 14 minutes to go in the half.Â
Stephanie Nunez () would see a scoring opportunity shortly after but squared up the crossbar to keep the game tied. Harper would see a few more chances but fail to find the back of the net as the first half came to a close.
The beginning of the second half saw Harper keep pressuring the Triton defense, putting 5 shots on frame within the first 10 minutes but the score remained tied. The Hawks defense stayed strong as the Trojans only had one shot in the first 20 minutes of the second half. Both teams saw a slowed pace, spending much of the time in the middle third of the pitch before the officials once again called for a water break with just over 22 minutes to play. Harper dominated the time of possession in the second half, seeing a multitude of scoring opportunities but the back of the net eluded them. The Triton offense started to see their own chances with just over 5 minutes to go, seeing 3 shots but all were blocked by the Hawks defense.
The match looked to be headed for overtime as play slowed down with one minute to play. The Hawks made one final push and it paid off as
Lauren Talesky () dribbled into the box and finished with her left foot with 28 seconds to go. Harper would go on to hold the lead for the remainder of the game and won the match by a score of 2-1.
