Hawks Finish 1-1 on Hot Weekend

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PALATINE, IL-  The Harper College men's soccer team went 1-1 on an unusually hot late September weekend, defeating MATC 4-0 and losing to College of DuPage 3-0.

FRIDAY- Harper defeated Milwaukee Area Technical College 4-0

The Hawks fought to a scoreless tie in the first half before the offense took advantage of their opportunities to score all four of their goals in the second half.  Goalkeeper Christian Hyde (/Conant) ensured the first half shutout with a good breakaway save.  The first goal to start the scoring for the Hawks came in the 53rd minute after Cesar Velazquz fed a nice pass to Raphael de Souza () who got the Stormer goalkeeper going the wrong way and ricocheted a shot off the post and in.  15 minutes later, Harper would extend their lead on de Souza's second goal of the day.  de Souza stole the ball from the MATC defender and beat two more before sending his shot into the far post, giving the Hawks a 2-0 lead.

In the 77th minute, Andrew Janikowski (/Dundee-Crown) took a left footed shot from 20 yards out and was able to beat the goalie near post.  Less than a minute later, the Hawks would get their fourth and final goal on a throw in from Janikowski to Noah Ozbag () who's pass bounced off a defender into Yuriy Kopytko () who finished the play to give Harper the 4-0 win.  Hyde had two more breakaway saves in the second half to preserve the shutout, giving him three on the year.

SATURDAY-  Harper lost to College of DuPage 3-0

On a day where temperatures reached the mid-90's, the Hawks hosted College of DuPage for a 2pm N4C matchup.  Despite playing what the coaches described as one of the best halves of the season, Harper found themselves down 1-0 at halftime.  In the half, the Hawks totaled 9 shots (4 on net), while holding COD to only 2 shots on net.

The second half got off to a tumultuous start for Harper as COD was able to extend their lead to 2-0 on a goal 50 seconds into the half.  However, the Hawks were not able to take advantage of 12 Chaparral fouls and only saw 2 shots on net for the rest of the match.  The score would remain 2-0 until the 88th minute when COD put the game away with their third goal.

With the weekend split, the Hawks move to 5-4-1 (2-3-1 N4C) on the season.  Up next, Harper will continue their long string of home matches, as the Rock Valley College Golden Eagles come to Palatine on Wednesday.  Kick-off is scheduled for 4pm.
