Box Score PALATINE, IL-Â The Harper College men's soccer team hosted the Rock Valley Golden Eagles on Wednesday and ended the day with a 3-1 come from behind victory.
The first half on Wednesday saw each team pressuring the opposing defense to make plays early. Both teams were up to the task as the match was scoreless after the first 45 minutes. Goalkeeper
Christian Hyde (/Conant) stayed tough in the box, making five saves, including a tough save on a knuckling shot by the Golden Eagles.Â
At the start of the second half, both teams once again were able to see scoring chances in the first 10 minutes but the match still remained tied. However, the Golden Eagles would strike first as they scored the game's first goal in the 55th minute. After the goal, RVC's defense stayed aggressive and paid the price as forward Jesse Hurder was handed a red card, giving the Hawks a man advantage for the last 30 minutes of the match.
With the man advantage, the Harper offense was able to turn up the pressure and were rewarded with a goal in the 66th minute. A big save on the defensive end by Hyde pushed the Hawks' attack up the field and
Raphael de Souza () found
Ricky Gonzalez () over the top of the defender and Gonzalez took the left footed show low past the goalie near post. 11 minutes later, the fast-paced offense once again paid off as
Cesar Velazquez () fed
Ben Poder () who made a move across the box and launched a rocket past a diving RVC goalie far post putting the Hawks ahead 2-1. Harper would find the net once more for good measure as
Pedro Botello () passed to Velazquez and he beat the goalie far post with the left footed finish in the 88th minute. The Hawks would hold on for the last two minutes and finish the match with a 3-1 win.
With the victory, Harper moves to 6-4-1 overall and 3-3-1 in N4C play. Up next, the Hawks will host the Madison College WolfPack on Saturday at 4pm.
