Hawks Fall to WolfPack

Box Score PALATINE, IL- The Harper College women's soccer team continued their string of games against N4C opponents on Wednesday, losing 2-1 against the WolfPack of Madison College.

Coming into the match, the WolfPack had won their previous two games and had not allowed a goal in either. The Hawks would abruplty end the latter as Ayulieth Garcia (/Maine West) set up Lauren Talesky () for a goal in the 4th minute, marking the first time that Madison College had trailed in a match all season. However, consistent pressure by Madison created multiple scoring opportunities and they tied the game on a goal by Britt Schumann in the 10th minute. Both defenses would step up for the remainder of the half and the match remained tied 1-1 at the first whistle.

The second half started the same way the first ended, strong defense and goalkeeping to keep the match tied at one goal apiece. The Hawks would be the first to budge, however, as Schumann added on her second goal of the match in the 75th minute to bring the score 2-1 in favor of the WolfPack. Both teams would continue to apply pressure but both defenses were again up to the task. Harper was only able to manage one shot on goal for the rest of the half as the final whistle sounded on a 2-1 score. Madison College looked to attack early and often against Harper, finishing with a 27-5 shot advantage (11-5 shots on goal). Goalkeeper Christina Kim () held her own in the box, totaling 9 saves. Freshman midfielder Julia Szylke () paced the Hawks with 3 shots on goal.

With the loss, Harper moves to 1-2 on the season. The next match is Monday, September 11 against Morton College. Kick-off is scheduled for 4pm.
