PALATINE, IL- The #10 ranked Harper College volleyball team hosted the College of DuPage Chaparrals on Tuesday night and finished off a victory in four sets.
Harper started off slowly in set one, which has become a story for the season thus far. After an early 2-2 tie, the Hawks fell behind 3-6 thanks to 2 hitting errors, 2 service errors, and some sloppy defense. Harper would eventually be able to recover and tie the set at 19, 20, 21, 22, and 23, but did not have enough left to close the set and ended up falling 23-25.
The second set was another tough matchup as there were again early ties, this time at 1, 5, 7, 8, 11, and 12. However, the Hawks flipped the script from set one and won this one 25-16. Once again in set three, there were seven more ties before another 25-16 victory heading into the fourth set. Harper came out hot in this one and went ahead early 8-2 before finishing the match with a 25-16 win.
Gabby Fugle (Island Lake/Wauconda)Â (11) and
Abby Wemple (Johnsburg/Johnsburg)Â (10) both notched double-digit kills for the Hawks.Â
Karolina Sas (Palatine/Fremd),
Kayla Agoranos (Hampshire/Hampshire), Wemple, and
Kathleen Gueco (Hanover Park/Hoffman Estates) all had 2 aces in the match. Wemple led the team with 20 digs, while Sas chipped in 17 of her own. Gueco completed the double-double with 21 assists and Agoranos added 20 more for her own double-double.
The Hawks moved their record to 18-10 overall and 7-3 in the N4C. For their next match, Harper will travel to Elgin on Thursday. to take on the Elgin Community College Spartans
