Box Score Palatine, IL 9/29/2021

In their second match of the season, Harper hosted the Wolves yesterday. Harper started off scoring early, in the 7th minute. When a shot by Leonardo Tule (/Wheeling High School ) was going wide but deflected off a Joliet player, resulting in an own goal. Just a minute later, a defensive error in the defense for Harper gave Joliet the ball and an easy oppurtunity for their goal to tie the game. The Hawks were able to regain the lead back in the 19th minute when a long throw in by Patrick Hopkins (/Jacobs High school) found the head of Jonathan Rivas (/Elk Grove High School ) who was able to deflect the ball in to the net. Harper would continue to put on the pressure but the half would end 2-1.

Coach Watson said, "We looked good out there, connecting a lot of passes but struggled to get consistency in the offensive third."

Second half had a similar storyline, but the Hawks were able to get in behind Joliet's defense quite a few times. Joliet's goalie would come up with several big saves, but the Hawks were able to get another goal when Adan Ramirez (/Rolling Meadows High School) finished a breakaway after a nice through ball from Aaron Bustamante (/Palatine High School). The Hawks would have a few more chances but were not able to get another goal as the game ended 3-1. The defense also played really well and shut down Joliet's attack. Joliet was only able to produce one more shot on goal, in the second half, after a defensive mistake by Harper. Kyle Varela (/Palatine High School) played the full 90 minutes and ended with 1 save.
