Harper stole the lead late and defeated Prairie State 10-9 on Tuesday. The Hawks were down 9-8 in the bottom of the eighth inning when
Justin Gadomski (Schaumburg, IL/Schaumburg High School) doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
Gadomski collected four hits in five at bats to help lead Harper College to victory. Gadomski doubled in the first, tripled in the fifth, singled in the seventh, and doubled again in the eighth. He tallied five RBIs to power the Hawks.
In the first inning, 2023 Prairie State College Pioneers got their offense started when Richard Woodruff doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring three runs.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Adrianza, Gadomski, and
George Betevis (Hanover Park, IL/Bartlett High School) delivered consective singles,
Michael Budorick (Glenview, IL/Glenbrook South) then walked to set the stage for
Micah O'Neal (Forest Park, IL/Guerin Prep High School). O'Neal delivered a huge hit for the second consecutive day, this time a grand slam that carried over the centerfield fence.
Jermaine Salcedo (Arlington Heights, IL/Rolling Meadows High School) started on the mound for Harper College. The righthander lasted two innings, allowing five hits and five runs while striking out three and walking one.
JT Adams (Huntley, IL/Huntley High School) earned his first victory of the season with seven innings out of the bullpen, allowing four runs (two earned).
Kyle Basile led things off on the pitcher's mound for Prairie State. The southpaw surrendered two runs on four hits over five innings, striking out six. Angel Morales, Nolan Wiebe, Erick Cerezo, and Alex Marshall each entered the game as relief, throwing one and one-third innings, two-thirds of an inning, two-thirds of an inning, and one-third of an inning respectively.
Harper College tallied 11 hits on the day. Gadomski,
Matthew Schalk (Hoffman Estates, IL/Fremd High School), and
Ehinger Adrianza (Miami, FL/Felix Varela Senior High) each managed multiple hits for Harper College.
