Despite a 6-run deficit in the sixth inning, Harper College almost came all the way back, eventually falling 14-12 to Morton College Panthers on Sunday.
Kyle Odeshoo (Arlington Heights, Illinois/Prospect High School) was in the middle of all three big innings for Harper. He homered to leftfield in the 2nd, rightfield in the 5th, and capped it off with a no doubter to centerfield in the 7th inning.
The Hawks notched five runs in the second inning. The home run by Odeshoo, a 3-run double by
Justin Gadomski (Schaumburg, IL/Schaumburg High School), and a single by
Michael Budorick (Glenview, IL/Glenbrook South) all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.
In the 5th inning Budorick led off with a double, and scored on a sacrifice fly by
Micah O'Neal (Forest Park, IL/Guerin Prep High School).
George Betevis (Hanover Park, IL/Bartlett High School) then singled, setting the stage for Odeshoo's second blast of the game.
Harper College scored four runs in the failed 7th inning comeback on Odeshoo's third home run, a home run by
Justin Cappis (Chicago, IL/Niles North), and a single by
Ehinger Adrianza (Miami, FL/Felix Varela Senior High).
Stevie Churak (Fox River Grove, IL/Cary Grove High School) led things off on the hill for Harper College. Churak lasted one inning, allowing five hits and five runs while striking out one and walking one.
Connor FitzGerald (Chicago, IL/Lake View High School) and
Quinton Johnston (Sarnia, ON (CA)/Great Lakes Secondary School) entered the game as relief, throwing four and a third innings and two-thirds of an inning respectively.
Harper College tallied 17 hits. Budorick, Odeshoo, Cappis,
George Betevis (Hanover Park, IL/Bartlett High School), and
Nic Castrovillari (Hanover Park, IL/Bartlett High School) each racked up multiple hits for the Hawks.
