Hawks Men's Basketball Fall in Season Opener

Palatine, IL: In an exciting home opener, the Harper Hawks men's basketball team faced off against the Olive-Harvey Panthers, marking the beginning of their transition from NJCAA DIII to DII. The matchup, held at the Hawks' home court, showcased a spirited performance from both teams, although the Hawks ultimately fell to the Panthers by a score of 71-65.

The first half saw the Panthers seize control early, outpacing the Hawks to take a 36-26 lead into halftime. Despite facing a tough opponent from the NJCAA DI ranks, Harper showed resilience and determination as they regrouped during the break.

Amari Northcutt was a standout for the Hawks, leading the team with 21 points while setting a lively tone on the court with his infectious energy. Northcutt's offensive prowess, coupled with his tenacity on defense, was evident as he contributed four steals, matching the effort of teammate Daniel Tewogbade, who also recorded four steals.

Luke Sinisa and Ibukunoluwakitan Sonoiki provided a strong presence on the boards, with Sinisa grabbing 14 rebounds and Sonoiki adding 12, helping to keep the Hawks competitive in the paint. Sinisa also chipped in offensively with 13 points, while Andre Anderson matched that total, showcasing the Hawks' depth and versatility.

Despite their efforts, the Hawks struggled to close the gap in the second half, as the Panthers maintained their composure and held on for the victory. This game served as a valuable experience for Harper as they adjust to the higher level of competition in DII basketball.

As the Hawks move forward in their season, they'll look to build on the positives from this opener, focusing on tightening their defense and enhancing their offensive cohesion. The team's next challenge will provide an opportunity to learn and grow as they continue their transition in the competitive landscape of NJCAA basketball.

The Hawks play next at Oakton tomorrow at 7:00 PM.
