Harper Volleyball Falls to Joliet in Four Sets

Palatine, IL: The Harper College volleyball team put up a strong fight but ultimately fell to Joliet Junior College in a hard-fought four-set match with scores of 22-25, 27-25, 16-25, 20-25.

Set 1: Joliet Takes the Lead
The first set saw Harper and Joliet locked in a tense battle, exchanging points early on. The teams were tied multiple times (3-3, 4-4, 5-5 and 8-8, 9-9 and 10-10), but Joliet slowly edged ahead, pulling away to a 10-14 lead. Harper rallied to close the gap to 22-23 but fell just short, losing the set 22-25.
Evie Mounts led Harper with 6 kills in this set. Abby Major was 7-7 serving and had 5 digs.

Set 2: A Heart Breaker in Extra Points
The second set was another closely contested fight. Harper matched Joliet point-for-point, with ties at 6-6, 7-7, 8-8, and 12-12. Harper then took a 20-16 lead, but Joliet rallied back to even the score at 22-22. The set extended into extra points, but Joliet narrowly edged Harper 25-27, taking a 2-0 lead in the match.
Lauren Ahlstedt came through with 4 kills and a block. Mounts was 7-7 serving, while setter Taylor Coutts had 5 digs.

Set 3: Harper Rallies Back
Facing elimination, Harper came out strong in the third set. They built an early lead at 8-4 and extended it to 15-10. With a strong offensive display, Harper pulled away and won the set comfortably 25-16, keeping their hopes alive and forcing a fourth set. 
Mounts was 7-7 serving with an ace and had 6 digs. Coutts added 5 more digs.

Set 4: Joliet Closes Out the Match
The fourth set began with yet another tight contest. Both teams battled point for point, tying at 7-7. Harper briefly took the lead at 14-9, but Joliet stormed back to even things at 14-14. From there, the teams continued to trade points until Joliet broke a tie at 18-18 and surged ahead to win the set 25-20, sealing the match 3-1. 
Major added 6 digs. Coutts was 6-6 serving with an ace; Maya Sokolowski was 5-5 serving with 2 aces.

For the match, Harper served 95% (89 of 94) and 9 aces. Harper had 33 kills, but 26 hitting errors, which resulted in a mere 6% hitting percentage. Harper had 74 digs (18.4 digs/set) with
Mounts leading the way with 18 digs. Libero Major had 16 digs.

Current Harper College Volleyball Athlete of the Week, setter
Coutts turned in her 5th consecutive double-double with 27 assists (6.75 assists/set), and 14 digs (3.5 digs/set).

There was a large crowd supporting the Harper Hawks volleyball team tonight.
