Harper College Battles Tough Competition at Heartland Invitational

Normal, IL: The Harper College volleyball team faced fierce competition during the Heartland Invitational on September 13-14, 2024, held at Heartland College in Normal, Illinois. Despite collectively putting up a great effort, the Hawks fell short in four matches, competing and learning against high-ranked teams including Northern Iowa Area, and nationally ranked teams #7 Heartland, #14 Sauk Valley, and #3 Parkland.


Match 1: Harper vs. Northern Iowa Area - Friday, 9/13/2024, 1:00 p.m.
Result: 1-3 Loss (25-18, 16-25, 24-26, 17-25)
The Hawks started strong in the first set, securing a 25-18 win. Key contributions came from Lauren Ahlstedt with 12 kills and Abbie Greenberg with 10 kills. However, Northern Iowa rebounded, taking the next three sets. Harper came close in the third set, pushing it to extra points before falling 24-26.

Up against the #7 ranked Heartland College, Harper struggled to find its rhythm. Though Ahlstedt shined again with 9 kills and an impressive 53% efficiency, the Hawks couldn't match Heartland's pace, losing in straight sets.

In their Saturday opener, Harper College battled against #14 Sauk Valley. The first set was a close contest, with Harper holding a tie at 16-16 before ultimately dropping the set 21-25. However, the next two sets saw Sauk Valley dominate.
